We have
condensed* the keyboard accompaniment and have assigned
"assisting parts"
making it possible to do this standard choral piece with smaller
choirs and/or choirs that lack enough singers on certain parts.
These are the kinds of things we have all done with choirs for
years ("Sopranos, help the altos here," etc.).
The SATB
setting follows the most commonly used voicing and word
assignments.
* - The
keyboard part has been made more appropriate; it is not an
orchestral reduction, but is designed for an ordinary human to
play! Will work for piano or organ accompaniment.
Rehearsal part-reduction score included for
rehearsal accompanist.
The SAB score covers all the main themes the audience is
accustomed to hearing, and for the most part the soprano line is
left 'in tact.' The baritone part goes up only to an E4 (in D
major); to maintain the usual themes, the baritone goes down to
an A2, but has optional upper octave notes provided.
NOTE:
I've used the SAB very successfully. After the men learned the
baritone part, I put a couple of solid-reading basses on the
regular bass part from the SATB score, and that really 'beefed
it up' well. The C-major setting is much better for all the
ranges (alto gets a little low - G3), but D-major sure sounds
brighter! See score information
at the bottom of this page. |
